President Letter

Dear Colleagues,

I trust everyone has been able to spend valuable time with family members and friend during the Holiday Season. Let me take this opportunity to wish you and your family a very Happy New Year.

As you may have learned from Drs. Ricardo and Keith Britton, the program for the 2009 Gilbert H. Fletcher Society meeting in Panama is coming along well. We plan to have three mornings of scientific presentations, each ending with case discussions. Drs. Ricardo and Keith Britton are assembling the program for the Panamanian Society of Oncology (PSO) and Drs. Komaki and Yamada are finalizing the program for the Japan/US Cancer Therapy Symposium (JUCTS). Please note that the Gilbert H. Fletcher Society meeting sessions will also be open for registrants of PSO and JUCTS to attend.

Of additional great interest is that the Executive Committee of the Fletcher Society has selected Dr. Luis Pinillos as this year’s Gold Medalist. I trust Dr. Luis Pinillos is known to many of you. Briefly, in addition to advancing cancer care in Peru as a former Minister of Health and a former Director General of the Institute of Neoplastic Disease,

Dr. Pinillos has played an important role in founding ALATRO (Asociacion Latinoamericana de Terapia Radiante Oncológica), a large multi-national society resulting from a fusion of CRILA and GLAC-RO and representing radiation oncology specialty in Central and Latin America. He has served as the first President of ALATRO that has embarked intensively on setting up core teaching curriculum, establishing continuing medical education, etc., which will have a large impact on the further development of radiation oncology in Central and Latin America and the proper recognition of the value of our specialty in treatment of cancer. It is with great pleasure that I invite you to attend the coming Gilbert H. Fletcher Society meeting in Panama. Please contact Dr. Keith Britton for logistics of the registration, local accommodation, and also for details of optional tours if you are interested in spending additional days in Central America.

Best personal regards and looking forward to seeing you in Panama.
Sincerely

Kian Ang, M.D.
