We were invited to present a report to the board last year. In it we presented our society and the situation of radiation oncology in our region asking for a closer cooperation with ASTRO. A Spanish session was held during the congress with the participation of Spanish speaking ASTRO professionals working in USA who commented on the highlights presented during the meeting and discussing its possible application in developing countries.
We also expressed our gratitude for the support offering ALATRO a booth at the commercial exhibit free of charge as it will happen for this coming congress. The booth is of great relevance for us, as it gives us the opportunity of promoting our society and activities. ASTRO also supported our society with a course on quality assurance that was presented in our Uruguay Congress, 2007. The possibility of developing, with the support of ASTRO, a strategy with the industry so as to help with the equipment in the region with a functional and not very expensive linear accelerator is on discussion. It is an exciting possibility that will be of great impact in the region. We are participating of the ASTRO Board of Societies this year at the 50th ASTRO Congress. ALATRO was present at the International Brachytherapy Congress this year, on May, in Boston, increasing the relationship with ABS and GEC-ESTRO.
